The Kaghan Valley is a summer road. Naran itself is open roughly May to October; the Babusar Pass at the top of the valley opens later still, usually July, and closes at the first serious snow. Beyond Naran the track to Lake Saif-ul-Malook is rough enough that most vehicles stop at the village and transfer to a local jeep for the last stretch — plan for that rather than being surprised by it. The drive up is long, spectacular and tiring, with sections of single-lane road above the Kunhar River. Do not self-drive this one on a first visit to Pakistan.
