What Car Rental Actually Costs in Pakistan (2026)

Rental pricing in Pakistan is negotiable, inconsistent between operators, and rarely published — which makes it hard to know whether a quote is fair. Here is how it is actually structured.

What you are paying for

A daily rate in Pakistan almost always means vehicle + driver + fuel for a 12-hour day within the city. That bundle is the local default, and it is why comparing a Pakistani "daily rate" with a European self-drive rate is meaningless. Unbundle it and the components are:

  • The vehicle
  • The driver's wage and food allowance
  • Fuel, up to a reasonable city-use limit
  • A kilometre allowance, usually generous within one city

The shape of the market

Without quoting a specific operator's numbers, the classes and their relative costs are consistent across the industry:

ClassExampleRelative daily cost
Small city car660cc hatchbackBaseline (1×)
Compact hybridAqua~1.3×
Compact sedanYaris, City~1.5×
Mid sedanCorolla Altis~2×
Top-trim sedanAltis Grande, Civic~2.5–3×
Mid SUVMG HS, HS PHEV~3×
Van (13 seat)Hiace~3×
Full-size 4x4Land Cruiser~6×

We deliberately do not publish a rate card — the honest number depends on your dates, route and duration — but we will give you the total in writing on WhatsApp before anything is booked. See the fleet for what each class is actually good for.

Where the extras come from

This is the part worth knowing, because it is where a cheap quote becomes an expensive invoice:

  • Out-of-city travel. City day rates assume city use. Going to Murree, Lahore or Naran is priced per trip or per km, and it should be quoted before you leave, not calculated afterwards.
  • Overtime. A 12-hour day is standard. Hour 13 onwards is charged, and the rate should be told to you up front.
  • Driver accommodation on overnight trips. Reputable operators build this into the trip price. Ask explicitly — a quote that omits it is not cheaper, just incomplete.
  • Fuel on long runs. Long-distance quotes should state clearly whether fuel is included. Ours do.
  • Airport pickup premium. Some operators add a surcharge for late-night arrivals. Ours do not, but ask.
  • Decoration for weddings, which is a third-party cost passed through.
The single best protective question: "Is that the total, door to door, including fuel and the driver, with nothing to pay at the end?" Get the answer in writing on WhatsApp. Any operator unwilling to put it in writing has told you something useful.

Monthly is dramatically cheaper

A monthly rate is nowhere near thirty daily rates — the discount is steep, because the vehicle is committed and utilisation is guaranteed. If you are in Pakistan for more than about ten days, ask for a monthly lease quote alongside the daily one. Expatriates on posting, project staff and NGO teams should not be paying daily rates at all.

Where the real savings are

  • Take a hybrid for a city-based stay. On a month of Islamabad driving, the fuel difference between a hybrid and a petrol sedan is significant, and it comes straight off your quote. See hybrid rentals.
  • Right-size the vehicle. A Land Cruiser for city meetings costs three times a Corolla and arrives at the same time. Book the 4x4 for the days you are actually in the mountains.
  • Hourly for short jobs. A four-hour block beats a full day for a morning of meetings.
  • One-way for intercity. A one-way transfer to Lahore should not be priced as a two-day hire.

Payment norms

Cash on completion is standard and normal — this is not a market where a card hold is expected. No reputable operator needs a deposit to hold a chauffeur-driven booking. Deposits are legitimate for self-drive hire, where they are refundable and the amount should be stated in advance.
